Reading the map
The disk is an azimuthal equidistant projection of the whole sky: the north pole sits at the center, north up, and each circle marks a band of declination. Brighter objects sit as larger, more luminous glows; each colour codes a category — galaxies in cool blue, nebulae in magenta, clusters in teal, and stars in warm gold.
Objects are placed by their real sky coordinates, so a given night's sky is a rotating slice of this map. Switch Labels off and sweep the pointer across the disk to find each glow by position — the same warm-up astronomers do before they ever need to look one up in the catalog.
